Fewer Severe Injuries Caused By New, Depowered Airbags

I was interviewed recently by reporter Brad Wernle for this article about smart airbags in AutoWeek. Unfortunately, I must not have said anything controversial enough, because I wasn’t quoted in the article.

The gist of the article is that with the newer, depowered airbags, there has been a dramatic decrease in the severity of injuries caused by the deployment of the airbag. My comments to the reporter were that a bigger problem is the failure of airbags to deploy when they should, and the failure of auto manufacturers to install side airbags in every vehicle.
